SEND & Inclusion

Parkside is a mainstream primary school. We support children’s learning, wellbeing and regulation through clear routines, strong relationships and early help. If you ever have concerns about your child, please speak to their class teacher in the first instance and then contact the SENCO.

How We Support Children

Most children learn in their classroom with high‑quality teaching and a dedicated teaching team. Some children may need short breaks, extra help with regulation or more structured routines. We use a simple, three‑tier model to support pupils already attending Parkside.

1. Cedar Base – Structured Support

A calm room for children who benefit from predictable routines and extra regulation support. This is not a separate provision and cannot be accessed through external referral.

2. Willow Room – Reset & Pastoral Support

A nurturing space for short breaks, movement, soft starts and small‑group pastoral work.

3. Universal Classroom Support

Every year group has a Teaching Assistant to help with routines, small‑group learning and regulation strategies.

NOTE: These support spaces are part of Parkside’s internal graduated response. They are only for pupils already on roll and are not specialist SEND provisions.

How Needs Are Identified

We follow the SEND Code of Practice:

  • Classroom adaptations

  • Adapted Provision Plan (AP)

  • APDR SEND Support Plan

  • External advice (when required)

  • EHCP applications for more complex needs

Parents are involved at every stage.

Working With Families

We offer:

  • Quick chats at drop‑off and pick‑up

  • Appointments with teachers and / or the SENCO

  • Termly review meetings (in addition to parent consultations)

  • Support from our Parental Engagement Officer

Statutory Information

DSPL6

Parkside Community Primary School is proud to be part of the Hertfordshire DSPL6 partnership. DSPL stands for Delivering Specialist Provision Locally.

DSPL is a county-wide initiative that brings together schools, early years settings, parents and carers, Hertfordshire County Council, and a range of partner services. By working collaboratively, the partnership helps to review, develop, and improve the support and specialist provision available for children and families within the local area.

The aim of DSPL is to ensure that children and young people receive the right support, at the right time, within their local community by:

- Meeting the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and or disabilities (SEND) aged 0-25, as close to home as possible.

- Improving outcomes for wellbeing and attainment.

- Broadening choices for children and their families.

- Removing barriers to learning.

- Effectively utilising resources.

The DSPL6 Website provides a wealth of information for parents, carers and children.
